Autobiographical notes by William Overton, an early colonist of Victoria, describing his childhood and youth in England, arrival in Tasmania in 1832, move to Port Phillip in 1836, and subsequent life in Melbourne, where he worked as a baker during the early days of the settlement. Includes an extract from the Argus recording the first use of gas illumination in Victoria in William Overton's shop in 1849. Also: Letter from C. Newham?, a member of the Victorian Contingent to the Boer War, dated 24 May 1901, describing living and fighting conditions in the war. Also: Certificate of completion of hire purchase agreement between the Industrial Acceptance Corporation Ltd. and Mr. R.J. Roach, dated 4 July 1955.
